Project Summary

Carmen Corbasson Community Centre, formerly Cawthra Arena, was built in 1972. A 43,000-square-foot addition was added to the existing 90,000-square-foot community centre in the City of Mississauga. The community centre’s amenities include a climate-controlled indoor walking track, a full-size gymnasium, an active living studio, two indoor ice surfaces, and a 25-metre lane pool. The expansion of the community centre aimed to meet the City of Mississauga’s Corporate Green Building Standard and foster connections to nature by taking advantage of its natural surroundings, creating a ‘Pavilion in the Forest’ with expansive windows. Mass timber construction of the Carmen Corbasson Community Centre was done with cross-laminated timber roof decks and glue-laminated timber columns and beams.
