Project Summary

The Canadian Canoe Museum, nestled within Peterborough, ON, features the largest collection of canoes in the world, housing over 600 different canoes. The facility is designed to pay homage to the shape, form, and materials that are familiar to canoes. As such, the building has a mostly mass timber building envelope, featuring glue-laminated timber beams and columns, as well as cross-laminated timber wall panels and hybrid CLT-metal roof decking. The building is net-zero ready and takes Indigenous culture and perspectives into consideration during design, as demonstrated by spaces for smudging ceremonies and more.
