The new 4-storey, 86,000-square-foot Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Administrative Office was built just beside Black Creek ravine in Toronto, ON, and is recognized as one of the most sustainable and innovative buildings in North America. The facility uses mass timber and wood construction wherever possible, following a ‘Wood First Design,’ resulting in wood being incorporated into structural, interior, and exterior elements of the building. The use of wood throughout the structure reduces the embodied carbon within the building when compared to traditional steel and concrete. The building is targeting LEED Platinum certification, WELL Building Standard Silver certification, and has received certification in 2024 as having a Zero Carbon Building Design.
