Soma Chocolate Factory

The renovated space at Soma’s new facility on Brock Avenue in Toronto is a true chocolate factory—an open concept chocolate “atelier” that draws you in with the sights and smells of some of the best chocolates in the world being produced right in front of your eyes. Timmerman was involved in this project at its earliest stages, when a run-down concrete block and steel structure was transformed into the bright, modern facility that you see now. For this project Timmerman was brought in for structural reasons—to retrofit a 500 m2 second floor NLT floor system to bring the structure up to current building codes—but the exposed NLT is also a great fit for the final look of the build—simple, authentic, and clean.
